I bought the paperweight after reading a book (fiction) whose plot was based upon the glassblowers of Murano, Italy. I had visited Venice years ago and purchased a vase which I gave away and which was later broken. Thus, I decided that I should purchase now an example of Murano glass, one which would be substantial; a paperweight seemed the logical option. I am exceedingly pleased with my choice; the heavy glass paperweight is gorgeous, and I admire its beauty every day, appreciating, too, my possessing of a truly lovely object of the art of a Murano glassblower!
